Ancient Coin Reference Guide Part One Compiled by Ron Rutkowsky When I first began collecting ancient coins I started to put together a guide which would help me to identify them and to learn more about their history.
Over the years this has developed into several notebooks filled with what I felt would be useful information. Ancient coins come in tens of thousands of types, with hundreds of “issuing authorities” (empires, cities, tribes, and rulers) and the books that document all this information represent centuries of accumulated scholarship — not all of it in English.
I have found ERIC II to be an amazing reference. The first thing that struck me upon receiving it was its sheer size. The book is printed beautifully and justifies the use of art paper by use of colour-coded sections and crystal-clear colour photographs of coins.
